Police: Man bought 150 packs of cigarettes with fraudulent credit cards

SCRANTON — A New York state man faces charges in Scranton for using fraudulent credit cards to buy 150 packs of menthol cigarettes from a city store, Scranton police said.

Royale Peter Green, 27, of Freeport, is charged with access device fraud, theft by deception and receiving stolen property, according to a criminal complaint by Detective Jeffrey Jones.

Mr. Green used 12 different credit cards, which police learned were fraudulent, to purchase $1,005 worth of Newport 100 cigarettes, five packs at a time, between Feb. 3 and Feb. 4 from a store on the 1400 block of North Washington Avenue, police said.

Mr. Green is in Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $40,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
